Mobile IV Therapy in Arcadia, Phoenix
Arcadia sits between the Arizona Canal and Camelback Road, from 44th Street east to Scottsdale Road, below the north face of Camelback Mountain. It began as citrus land. In December 1919 the Jordan, Grace and Phelps Land Company and the firm of Charles Keafer recorded the first plat, and the Arcadia Water Company, formed the same year, built pumping plants able to water 2,100 acres; by 1924 it had laid 15 miles of concrete pipe. The developers hoped buyers would grow citrus, and set a $5,000 minimum for any house, raised to $10,000 when Arcadia Replatted opened in 1926. The first home, built in 1919 for the water company’s foreman, still stands on Camelback Road as the Shemer Art Center. The groves lasted until the mid-1950s, when subdivisions such as Mountgrove (1954) brought the ranch houses that line Arcadia’s streets today.
