Mobile IV Therapy in Mission Beach, San Diego
Mission Beach is built on a sandbar between the Pacific and Mission Bay, nearly two miles of oceanfront from the San Diego River jetty north to Pacific Beach, with a boardwalk along both the ocean and the bay. Building on sand held it back, so it grew later than Ocean Beach and Pacific Beach. After a new subdivision in 1914 and a wooden bridge to Ocean Beach, John D. Spreckels sold small lots, some only 1,250 square feet, and summer cottages went up through the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s; an airplane bungalow on Manhattan Court dates to 1924. On July 4, 1925, Spreckels opened the Mission Beach Amusement Center, with the Giant Dipper roller coaster and the Plunge, then the largest saltwater pool in the world. The park later became Belmont Park, and neighbors saved the coaster from demolition in 1978. Today Mission Beach is the most densely built neighborhood in San Diego.
