Mobile IV Therapy in Coronado, California

Coronado, Spanish for “crowned,” is a tied island joined to the mainland by the sandy Silver Strand. Kumeyaay families fished here, at North Island and the Coronado Cays, until the last of them were moved to the Mesa Grande Reservation in 1902. In the mid-1880s Elisha Babcock, Hampton Story and Jacob Gruendike bought the peninsula for a resort; a public naming contest first picked Miramar, but the choice was overturned in favor of Coronado, after the offshore Coronado Islands. Their Hotel del Coronado opened in 1888, and the town incorporated on December 11, 1890. John D. Spreckels added Tent City south of the hotel in 1900, streetcars ran on Orange Avenue until 1939, and in 1911 Glenn Curtiss opened the first flying school in the United States at what is now Naval Air Station North Island. The bridge from San Diego opened in 1969; about 20,000 people live in the Crown City today.
