Chula Vista, the “beautiful view”
Chula Vista means “beautiful view,” a name suggested by James D. Schuyler, the engineer who designed the Sweetwater Dam. People lived in the Otay Valley as long as 10,000 years ago, and the Kumeyaay village of Chiap stood by the mudflats at the south end of the bay. In 1795 the land became part of Rancho del Rey, later Rancho de la Nación, and in 1887 the San Diego Land and Town Company raised the first house of a planned 5,000-acre town. The dam, finished in 1888, brought irrigation; in 1889 the town gained the first watch factory west of the Mississippi, and for a time Chula Vista was the largest lemon-growing center in the world, with 4,000 of its 15,000 farm acres in lemon groves by 1911, the year it incorporated. About 275,000 people live here now, halfway between downtown San Diego and downtown Tijuana.
Where we come
We cover 91910, 91911, 91913, 91914 and 91915, from the older streets west of I-805 to Eastlake and Otay Ranch, with Bonita, National City and Imperial Beach on the same South Bay route. There is no travel fee in the ZIP codes we cover. Book a Chula Vista visit, or call or text 619-431-1714 if you are not sure about an address.
Around the South Bay
Third Avenue is the heart of downtown in the old lemon capital; the Chula Vista Bayfront has Bayfront Park and the marina; The Living Coast Discovery Center shows off the wildlife of the bay’s edge; and Otay Ranch Town Center is the open-air shopping street out east.
Booking in three moves
Enter your address with any gate code or unit number. Pick a time at least an hour out; windows open every hour and fifteen minutes. Then watch for the email and text that confirm it, and a message from the nurse once they are driving over.
Homes, hotels and gatherings
A nurse comes to your house in Eastlake, a condo near the bayfront, a hotel room or an office. For a wedding party or a group, one person books and prepays a single IV and everyone else pays when the nurse arrives.
