Mobile IV Therapy in Solana Beach, California
Solana means “sunny side” in Spanish, but until 1923 this stretch of coast was called Lockwood Mesa. Long before either name, the Kumeyaay kept a village called Kulaumai on the south bank of San Elijo Lagoon, and the first European settlers, George H. Jones and his family, arrived in 1886. The town took shape after Lake Hodges Dam went up in 1917–1918 and the Santa Fe Irrigation District formed in 1918. In 1922 Colonel Ed Fletcher bought 140 acres from Jones at $20 an acre, and to open a way down to the sand one man spent three months with a fire hose, washing out the bluff with water from the Lake Hodges spillway to carve Fletcher Cove. The beach opened on July 4, 1925, with horse races on the sand. Solana Beach incorporated in 1986, and in 2003 it became the first city in the continental United States to ban smoking on its public beaches.
