Mobile IV Therapy in Rancho Peñasquitos, San Diego

Rancho Peñasquitos carries the name of the first Mexican land grant in what is now San Diego County, Rancho Santa María de Los Peñasquitos; peñasquitos means “little cliffs.” The Kumeyaay lived here for some 7,000 years and knew a settlement they called ‘Awil Nyawa. In 1823 Captain Francisco María Ruiz, commandant of the San Diego Presidio, received one league of land at the east end of the canyon and built a small adobe, and around 1860 his heirs added the larger Johnson-Taylor adobe beside an artesian well. The ranch was a stop on the wagon road to Warner’s Ranch and, from 1857 to 1860, on the San Antonio–San Diego mail line. It kept working as a ranch until 1962, when developer Irvin Kahn bought 14,000 acres for a planned community, and San Diego annexed most of it in 1964. Around 60,000 people now call it PQ.
