Mobile IV Therapy in Miramar, San Diego

Miramar takes its name, Spanish for sea view, from the house that newspaper publisher Edward W. Scripps built on his ranch here in the 1890s and named after Archduke Maximilian’s castle Miramare in Trieste; the name spread to the whole mesa. Before it became a military base in 1950 it was a small, isolated community around a railroad station, and none of its original buildings survive. During World War I the Army opened Camp Kearny on the mesa on January 18, 1917, training infantry until it closed in October 1920. Naval Air Station Miramar later became Fightertown USA, home of the Navy’s TOPGUN school made famous by the 1986 film; the school moved to Nevada in 1996, and in 1999 the base passed to the Marine Corps. Today the neighborhood mixes base housing, light industry and warehouses along Miramar Road, and a Little India on Black Mountain Road.
