Mobile IV Therapy in Tierrasanta, San Diego

Tierrasanta, Spanish for “holy land,” was a Marine Corps training ground before it was a neighborhood. The military bought the mesa in 1941 as Camp Elliott; the Marines moved out in 1944, the Navy took over, and the camp was deactivated in 1946. The government sold the land to the City of San Diego in 1961, the Elliott Community Plan followed in 1962, and Tierrasanta was founded in 1971 as one of the city’s first master-planned communities. By 1979 it had its first library, a 1,200-square-foot building with 6,000 volumes, and about 24,000 people lived here by 1980. The cleanup of old training ordnance in the surrounding canyons went on into the 1990s. With only four roads in and out, between State Route 52, Interstate 15, the San Diego River and Mission Trails Regional Park, locals call it “the Island in the Hills.”
