Mobile IV Therapy in Carmel Valley, San Diego

Carmel Valley takes its name from a hill the Sisters of Mercy called Mount Carmel. Long before them, the Kumeyaay village of Ahwel-Awa, “twine house,” stood near the San Dieguito River, and the Portolá expedition of 1769 described its many well-built houses with grass roofs. Under Mexican rule the area was known as Cordero, after settlers of that name, and after the Gold Rush it turned to farms and horse ranches, a few of which remain. In the 1890s the McGonigle family gave the Sisters 1,000 acres in exchange for health care, and by 1905 they were running a dairy in McGonigle Canyon; when Robert Stevens bought it in the 1940s he renamed it Mount Carmel Ranch, and the name spread to the valley. The city created the community in 1975 as North City West, building began in 1983, and in 1991 residents officially took back the name Carmel Valley.
