Mobile IV Therapy in Alamo, California

Alamo takes its name from the Spanish word for poplar or cottonwood. The land was the northern half of Rancho San Ramon, deeded to Mariano Castro and his uncle Bartolo Pacheco in 1833, and in 1847 the pioneers Mary Ann and John Jones crossed it by wagon; her diary gives the earliest English description of the valley, its hills thick with clover and wild oats standing waist high. The couple returned in 1851, John became the first postmaster in 1852, and the Alamo post office is still the oldest in continuous operation in the valley. Cattle and wheat gave way to orchards, and in 1873 Myron Hall grafted Persian walnut cuttings onto native trees, helping to launch Contra Costa County’s walnut industry. A railroad station followed in 1891. Today about 15,300 people live in unincorporated Alamo, 9.7 square miles between Walnut Creek and Danville at the north end of the San Ramon Valley.
