Recommended IV For Nausea and Vomiting

Nauseas? We can help!

We have all been there. We ate something we didn’t trust, was past an expiration date, or had been sitting out too long at room temperature. Sometimes that bargain-priced sushi ends up hurting us more in the long run. Food poisoning and significant nausea/vomiting/diarrhea not only makes you feel terrible — it can also prevent you from going out and living life (not to mention working, running errands, or any of your other obligations!). Nausea can make life miserable. Whether it is by itself, from pregnancy, or a symptom of another illness.

It is astounding how many of our ASAP IVs clients didn’t know about our service before their treatment. They didn’t know that suffering in silence from food poisoning wasn’t the only treatment solution. Through our mobile IV therapy, we come to you to help you recover from food poisoning in the comfort of your own home, frequently in 30 minutes or less!

Preventing dehydration and pounding fluids/electrolyte replacement drinks is very helpful and the mainstay of treatment, but getting a timely IV can help stave hours off of feeling miserable. PO hydration (or orally drinking fluids and electrolyte replacement drinks like Gatorade/Powerade/Pedialyte) doesn’t help much when the nausea/vomiting prevents you from keeping and of it down. Significant dehydration can even lead to acute kidney injury or pre-renal azotemia.

We highly recommend our ASAP Recovery IV, as this has been specifically formulated to help with the symptoms of food poisoning and provide an avenue of recovery. The vitamins and medications will help reduce your worst symptoms and increase your energy so you can feel better ASAP and carry on with your life!

Our custom formulated ASAP Recovery IV costs $205 and includes:

  • One Liter of IV Fluid

  • B-12

  • Magnesium

  • Anti-nausea medication (called Ondansetron or Zofran)

  • Toradol (also known as Ketorolac)

The cost of this IV package is all inclusive, and there are no standard travel fees to any of our mobile IV therapy cities!

Price savings may be available at our local clinic, depending on location.

We offer this IV throughout all of our treatment areas, including Phoenix, Scottsdale, San Diego, Encinitas, and the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

With IV therapy solutions available for clinic or mobile appointments, ASAP IVs has the solutions for you to feel better faster.

Common Causes of Nausea

When is an IV for nausea actually used? Below are the 5 most common reasons we get calls for nausea IVs.

1. Morning Sickness, Pregnancy Nausea, or Hyperemesis

Pregnancy related nausea and vomiting or morning sickness can be a symptom of an early pregnancy (and an annoying symptom at that!). Usually most severe in the first trimester, morning sickness can range from mild to severe, leading to an inability to keep down fluids and maternal low blood pressure (or hypotension) which can lead to fetal distress. When this becomes significant and repetitive, it is termed hyperemesis gravidarum. Frequently, OBs will refer these clients out for IV therapy, necessitating scheduling with the hospital or another outpatient IV therapy service (which takes advanced time and scheduling). At ASAP IVs, we have formulated our own Pregnancy IV through the help and guidance of working with OBs. Note: Always let our team know if you are pregnant before receiving IV therapy so adjustments can be made to your infusion if needed.

2. Cold and Flu

Any kind of acute viral illness, whether from the common cold, influenza (the flu) or coronavirus (COVID) can quickly lead to dehydration and nausea. Unfortunately, bad nausea and vomiting can prevent you from holding down the fluids and nutrients you need, which can worsen the cycle. This is an ideal situation for mobile IV therapy. For recovery from acute viral illnesses, we recommend our ASAP Immune Recovery IV, with Vitamin C, B12, B-Complex, Zinc, Glutathione, and Toradol.

3. Hangover

Symptoms of a bad hangover can ruin a day, a vacation, or an entire bachelor/bachelorette party weekend. When you need to feel better ASAP, our IV therapy can minimize your nausea, reduce inflammation, replenish from dehydration, and help you to stop your hangover in its tracks. Our Hangover IV, ASAP Recovery IV, or ASAP Works IVs help immediately with nearly every symptom of a bad hangover (nausea, vomiting, inflammation, muscle aches/myalgias, headaches, and dehydration). Feel better faster without losing your weekend to one late night out!

4. Food Poisoning

Most frequently, our clients develop symptoms within 12 to 24 hours after consuming these foods. Generally, food poisoning is time-limited and symptoms generally only lasts a hours to a day, although significant cases can be drawn out much longer (dysentery, or severe bacterial diarrhea has historically been a huge cause of morbidity/mortality in developing nations, not to mention seriously derailing your Oregon Trail time). The main symptoms of food poisoning are:

  • Stomach cramps

  • Abdominal discomfort

  • Bloating

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhea

  • Mild fever

At ASAP IVs, our team strongly recommends scheduling an in-home IV as early as possible after you begin experiencing the symptoms of food poisoning. Starting fluid replacement early, or stopping the nausea in its tracks with anti-nausea and anti-inflammatory medications can prevent you from feeling the worst of the symptoms. It can also reduce downtime from the illness and get you feeling better faster. Our ASAP Recovery is recommended for helping the symptoms of food poisoning because the liter of IV fluid hydrates you, replenishes electrolytes lost through vomiting/diarrhea, and delivers anti-inflammatory (Ketorolac or Toradol) and anti-nausea medications (Zofran or Ondansetron. If you need extra nausea help, ask your provider about a Single or Double Vitamin Add-On with additional anti-nausea medication to customize your IV) to help treat your symptoms and get you feeling better faster.

Can an IV Drip Help with Nausea and Vomiting?

IV therapy with fluid and medication management is absolutely the fastest and most efficient treatment for food poisoning illnesses. Mobile IV therapy prevents dehydration, alleviates symptoms and hastens recovery time so you can feel rejuvinated ASAP.

  • Nausea/Vomiting: nausea can be debilitating, not to mention deadly when vomiting impacts your day to such an extent that you can’t hold down fluids. (Really need to help fight nausea/vomiting? Ask our team for a Single, Double, or Triple Vitamin-Add on to customize your IV to add in doses of anti-nausea medication to accelerate your recovery).

Body aches: Colds can leave your body feeling like you just ran a marathon or were hit by a truck. Fluid and anti-inflammatories can help reverse these symptoms.

  • Rehydrates instantly: When we aren’t feeling well, we don’t feel the same need to pound oral fluids and hydrate to the extent we should. If the body is dehydrated, the heart can’t effectively pump blood, oxygen, and nutrients to the tissues that need them, prolonging the negative symptoms of your illness, or even make you feel worse! (Significantly dehydrated? Add a second liter of IV fluid to your IV at the time of scheduling).

  • Bypasses the GI Tract with 100% Bioavailability: An IV drip is so effective because it delivers the fluid, medications, or vitamins directly into the bloodstream. This is taken directly to the heart and is pumped to the rest of the body, to the target tissues where they are needed. There is 100% bioavailability. This is helpful when food poisoning causes such significant nausea and vomiting that you cannot keep fluid down. Even when you do get fluid and medications into your system, not 100% of them are absorbed through the GI tract and into your bloodstream. With IV therapy, this isn’t true. All of the ingredients provided are realized by your tissues, which is why you feel better ASAP.
