Mobile IV Therapy in Alameda County, California
Alameda County takes its name from the Arroyo de la Alameda, a creek whose willows and sycamores reminded Spanish explorers of a tree-lined road; alameda means a grove of poplars or a tree-lined street. The county was carved out of Contra Costa and Santa Clara counties on March 25, 1853, with its first seat at Alvarado, now part of Union City. The seat moved to San Leandro in 1856, but the courthouse there was destroyed by the 1868 earthquake on the Hayward Fault, and after a stay in the town of Brooklyn it settled in Oakland in 1873. Around the turn of the twentieth century much of the county grew as a trolley suburb of San Francisco, with the Key System carrying commuters to ferries across the bay. About 1.68 million people live here today, in California’s seventh-largest county, from Berkeley and Alameda down to Fremont and east to the Tri-Valley.
